From October till June the indigenous  population of Jamal, the Nenets, work as fisherman.
They work for Russian fishing companies who ship the fish to other parts of Russia.
The fishermen camp in small settlements on the banks of the Gulf of the Ob. During the day to go out on the frozen gulf where the make holes in the three meter thick ice. Between the holes they span nets. When the nets are pulled out the fish freezes instantly.
Every year they return to theirfamilies for three months.
