Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres was a French Neoclassical painter. Although he considered himself to be a painter of history in the tradition of Nicolas Poussin and Jacques-Louis David, by the end of his life it was Ingres's portraits, both painted and drawn, that were recognized as his greatest legacy.

It is located on the Vistula River roughly 260 kilometers from the Baltic Sea and 300 kilometers from the Carpathian Mountains. Its population as of June 2009 was estimated at 1,711,466. Warsaw is also known as the "phoenix city", as it recovered from extensive damage during World War II (during which 85% of its buildings were destroyed), being rebuilt with the effort of Polish citizens.  Now Warsaw has become a popular tourist destination in the world.
